VLAGA Competitive Team Policies


In addition to the General Rules & Policies the following is expected of team families.


Attire

-    All team gymnasts must wear a tank leotard to every practice.
-    Stretch shorts / Bike shorts are permitted in the off-season only.
-    During winter, gymnasts may wear tight athletic pants during warm-up.
-    No jewelry or makeup is permitted to team practices.
-    Hair must be tied tightly out of the face. Use gel, clips, and/or hairspray to secure loose hair.
-    Gymnasts must wear their VLAGA team workout leotard every Friday.
      o    First Offense = warning
      o    2nd Offense = 1,000 Jumping Jacks
      o    3rd Offense = gymnast will not be permitted to workout

Attendance

-    All gymnasts are expected to attend all scheduled workouts throughout the year.
-    No Make-ups are permitted for missed workouts.
-    Minimum 70% attendance is required to maintain eligibility for competitions.

Competitions

-    We automatically enter all team members in competitions. You will be notified via flyer in your mailbox the dates and prices for each meet as well as the due dates for their corresponding fees.
-    Payment for all competitions is due prior to the start of the season including Sectionals, State, and Regionals. In the event your child does not qualify, you will be reimbursed.
-    If a scheduling conflict occurs far enough in advance, a refund is possible, but not guaranteed.
-    Gymnasts will not be permitted to compete with outstanding debts.
-    All Gymnasts must arrive 20-30 minutes prior to the start of open warm-up time.
-    Always be prepared with the cell number/s of the coach/es who will be at your session.
-    Always call if you are lost or running late to a competition.
-    Gymnasts must arrive in proper uniform for competitions. Always look your best for meets.

Private Lessons

-    Private Lessons are not encouraged for team members.
-    They can be useful tools in the event of 1) learning a new routine 2) addressing a phobia 3) in rare circumstances, to be caught up.
-    Training outside of VLAGA should always be discussed with the staff.
-    Privates should never be used in lieu of workout.

Tuition/Fiscal Policies

-    Please refer to our general policies.
-    Gymnasts with outstanding debts will not be allowed to workout passed the 15th of each month.
-    Full Tuition is due year round, regardless of family vacations, illness, or special circumstances.
-    VLAGA does not offer scholarships, but the Board of Directors does hear serious hardship cases.
-    Every family is expected to volunteer for the gym throughout the year. These include but are not limited to Kids Nights, Gym Clean Ups, VLAGA In-House Competitions, GPGA Events, and other Fundraisers. We are a non-profit organization and do not have a booster club. Your support is crucial to the survival of our team program.

Role of Parents

-    Being a VLAGA team parent means encouraging respect, courtesy, and a commitment to excellence. Your gymnast is only as good as you can help them be.
-    Do not speak to or coach your child from the balcony.
-    Do not talk to coaches during workout. Any problems with the coaching staff need to be addressed after workout or during the coaches Office Hours. No exceptions!
-    In the event of injury, parents are encouraged to work with the coaches in creating the best rehabilitation plan for the gymnast.
-    Parents are encouraged to help their gymnasts maintain a healthy low fat/low sugar diet high in essential proteins and carbohydrates, as well as make sure their child gets enough sleep nightly.
-    We are one, positive team at VLAGA.  Show good sportsmanship at all times, especially at competitions. Jealousy and Disrespect are not to be permitted among parents or gymnasts.
